i was replacing my springs :) and noticed this on the drivers front spring..
how could that of happened?????the end of the spring
is broken and it looks like it has been like that for a while. any ideas?

common problem springs don't last forever :) as they are being compressed all the time

never knew that...its just odd that it would break there.. but it isn't even rusted thru

be glad it didn't break in a worst spot, could have been messy.

wow that could've ended in a disaster.....good thing you found it and it didnt break in a worse spot. I had a lady come in one time when i worked in a garage and her spring broke right in the middle. Part of the spring stuck out and even punctured the tire. After all of this she called her husband after i strongly advised her to get the car towed to a local mechanic and her husband told her to drive home on it. :S

not so common for e30's but quite common on e36. seen them being replaced all the time. Even on e46's. the quality control dropped after e30s

^^^Yes, pretty rare on E30...But it went downhill with the E36, rears mostly. Same with the E38, they brake all the time.

ahah yeah had quite the rear end problem with my e36, the 4 bolts holding the subframe rotted away and "ka-boom"! there goes the left side of my sub frame, good thing it happened approaching a red light doing 15km lol so quick fix welded the shit out of it lol
