common problem springs don't last forever :) as they are being compressed all the time

Get a new spring(s) and call it a day.

It happens.

wow that could've ended in a disaster.....good thing you found it and it didnt break in a worse spot. I had a lady come in one time when i worked in a garage and her spring broke right in the middle. Part of the spring stuck out and even punctured the tire. After all of this she called her husband after i strongly advised her to get the car towed to a local mechanic and her husband told her to drive home on it. :S

not so common for e30's but quite common on e36. seen them being replaced all the time. Even on e46's. the quality control dropped after e30s

^^^Yes, pretty rare on E30...But it went downhill with the E36, rears mostly. Same with the E38, they brake all the time.
