View Full Version : E36 clear tailights?

Alright, I have a stupid question to ask you all, hehe.
Anyways, where in Toronto can I purchase the OEM Clear taillights with the check control?
How much can I expect to pay through purchasing it @ the dealer vs. purchasing it at a performance shop, etc?
I prefer NOT to have the Taiwanese immitations though please!

At the dealer they ran me about $500 for the E36, but the performance store wanted aboout the same. maybe about $20 cheaper. I think your best bet is to get the lights at the dealership, unless prices for them dropped alot at the perf shops.
I think you're better off just getting it from the dealer. I got mine from the dealer and paid around the same amount as Bliss did.
I looked at the ones at the performance shops but they didn't come with the bulbs or the holders and I don't know how good the seal is on the aftermarket ones so water might get in.

I agree, I've heard some bad things about aftermarket taillight assemblys, they leak too!

Definitely go OEM!! If you put both of them up to each other, you'll notice a difference in the colouring and quality.
Pay the difference, it's worth it!*th-up*

Yeah, call them up! See if they're in stock. Sometimes different dealerships offer different prices, so call a bunch of them up.;)

what if I try BC Auto, or other performance shops? Will I run into the risk of fake immitations that might not fit properly or where I'll have sealing problems on the tailights?

Go to T&C BMW. The rear are on sale ($50.00 off each!). I picked them up two weeks ago. Not sure when the sale ends.

did you go directly to the parts department or did you consult someone specifically?

Most performance shops, including BC auto sell imitations, and yes, there is always a risk with leakage or moiture getting in because of the poor quality. Better off spending a little more and getting the OEM.

I just went to parts. They looked up the price on the system and told me they were on sale. I heard so many horror story (water leaking into the lens) about no name rears. I almost purchase a set from Speedorma and then I took a very, very close look and they are sh*t. I did get the no name front corner. I was surprise they are ok.
I know that BC Auto carries the imitation ones that are made in Taiwan so I don't think they will be good. I also got the imitation front corners and they seem to be ok too. But play it safe and spend the extra money on the taillights.

I got mine from procarparts.com
it's the place that sells them all over ebay.
I got them for about $120 USD and they are really nice. I havent put them in yet, but i dont see any manufacturing flaws or anything with them. I have their front clear corners as well, and havent had a problem in over a year. They're made in korea though which isn't considered too great, but oh well. It's what i can afford. I can't afford $500 for tail lights =/

I just want your opinions, but is this expensive?
I called TC BMW and they quoted me $195.50 for EACH tailight which comes to a total of $391.00 before taxes. A grand total of $449.65 after taxes.
Do you think it's worth the money or should I shop around somewhere that provides a better deal, give that I am looking for the OEM clears?

That's what I paid for them. They list for $249.00 each I think. Speedarama show was selling the no name stuff for 325.00 a set. That's suppost to be show sale price!!! Is a hundred dollars between BMW and no name stuff. Spend the extra $ for the rears. It is up to you.
They are a little bit cheaper than what I paid for them last year so you're getting a good deal.
