View Full Version : Engine Bay Color Scheme

I can't believe I am being this trivial, but I'd like ppl's opinions on color scheme's for my engine bay. I've photoshop'ed some up for your consideration. Keep in mind this is a silver car, with red wires and it will have polished aluminum i/c piping and blue silicone hoses (all I could get).

Silver-Silver Unmodified (brackets are black though)

Typical Silver-Black Scheme that everyone has:

Black-Black with Logo on intake:

Red-Black. Crazier, but I surprisingly like this, both logo and no.

And all red. A little much.

Black/Black But without the logo. The cast in logo is nice enough IMO.

I'm biased though :)

I agree.

I have a m20 black powder coated intake and valve cover, and it looks good. Haven't had time to sand down the logo yet though,

I was really leaning towards black / black originally but find that it gets "lost" in all the other black hoses, cables, and otherwise general shit than is entailed with an M20.

I disagree. The black VC and Intake mani, along with subtle red accents, really make it nice and clean looking. And don't forget you're gonna have a red strut tower bar, as well as silver piping.

That with the black will really look good.

On top of that, the black is soooo much easier to keep clean looking. Silver or red I feel like you would be constantly having to clean.

Hmm.... good point. As much as I've been cleaning, there are still many nasty grimy spots.

Black Black = win.

It has the OEM look of the newer models.

Damn, all you guys are stifling my creativity. :)

Creativity needs to be inspired in subtle ways.

Otherwise you end up with this:

Damn, you've convinced me. Anyone every use Harley Davidson Texture paint? $20 a can, looks amazing. They have krinkle too, but texture is awesome. Worried about rubbing it smooth though.

I'm one for rediculous coloured engine bays. I'm doing my valve cover flouresent green.

03-11-2009, 05:51 PM
Well, in trying to NOT prolong my build any longer, I'm going black / black. I forgot about the red sparco bar I have hanging in the garage.

I just picked up the paint.

i did the black with the sanded logo's it looks amazing IMO here is the pic of my engine

03-11-2009, 06:45 PM
Did you paint it while it was still on the car?!

03-11-2009, 07:21 PM
what would red valve cover with black intake manifold look like...

03-11-2009, 07:28 PM
^^i can post a pic soon, my valve cover is already red (brilliantrot, like the rest of the car), and after seeing the pics of the black intake manifolds, i'm definatly gonna do it.

no i put it back together then did the sanding and stuff i was replacing the injectors with the 19lb ones and thought hell i might aswell paint the intake and valve while im at it. I have a pic of scott y24..or w.e his user name is aka (the guy who thinks he can get 400hp out of a stock m20 ) when i was friends with him we had to pull his engine to get the sub frame fixed, and he did his vc and intake but i don't like it (metallic red btw) but hey diff strokes for diff folks.

That red looks funny. Like.. pinkish. Maybe its just the camera.

I was almost going to say red-black, because I think it looks cool and it's different/interesting... but I think I like black/black better.

03-11-2009, 11:53 PM
im a huge fan of random colors. thus my fuh raze blue zipties in odd spots.

red intake manifold FTW!

I'm doing blue/blue in my white IX, looks sweet but my plug wires are slightly darker blue so I might have to go back and change the VC and intake somewhere down the road
