Hey everybody,

So I was browsing the net and found an add on Autotrader:
1999 M3 vert, auto, silver on dove $5000

I thought to myself, holy shit! So cheap! I donít even care if itís not a shtik, or a coupe.
I mean itís an M3 for 5k, right

So I wrote to the girl: ďwhat is the reason for sale? Send some more pics?Ē

I get an answer:
ďI am a single mother with two kids, recently divorced and moved to US
and donít need the car anymore
and the car is ready for Shipping in Washington
and the shipping is included
and bla, bla, blaĒ

She also canít meet with me cause she is busy at work, and thatís why she wants to use
eBayís purchase protection program.

I am supposed to send money through MoneyGram to this random eBay dude, then the money will be held until I get the car, then if I like it I will just let the guy know and he will give the money to her.

I can post the exact e-mailís that I have received, but you can just Google up ďeBayís purchase protection program scamĒ and apparently itís a popular scam. The wording of the e-mails is very similar to mine.

So I replied to her that I canít get the money today, but Iíll collect it ASAP.

The lesson of the day is BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! *no-no*

And also I am looking for ideas to reply to her:
I was thinking something like this: ďWhile I am collecting money to pay for the car, can you send me a picture of yourself holding todayís paper and a visible note that states:
This is not a scam, and I am dumb for selling my M3 for peanutsĒ

+1 ... even more than 2 years behind...

...when my dad purchased his 1971 Corvette from the States, he encountered a lot of people trying to scam him like this... and he bought the thing about 5 years ago!

I'd make up a fake e-mail address, and mess with her a bit.

Also small questions like, can you send some more Interior shots?

Can you send me more engine shots.

Then, say something like, I don't trust the money gram. But, you seem to be a nice person. Let me mail a cheque for you. I'll even add $500 for your trouble. Please provide an address and I'll get the cheque out to you.

(See what she says)...

Then say, I mailed the cheque... did you get it...

:D

You know what annoys me 'kiwi bank' or a 'dead relative' has left me money. You must be an idiot to actually even consider looking into it. Especially when you get 4-5 email a day, saying the same thing in different words, explaining how 5 of your relatives died and left you different amounts of money.

Yeah, this scam has been going on for a LONG time now. I've never actually heard of anyone falling for it, but I wouldn't be surprised. Some people are just way too trusting.

Anybody insisting on using eBay Purchase Protection Program is trying to scam you.

Not all long distance offers are scams... but 99% of them are.

I've seen hilarious threads on other forums of people stringing along scammers, getting them to take odd photos and whatnot. However, you really need to sound legit in your responses. Any over-the-top comments or requests will trigger an alarm and they will stop communicating with you immediately. I'm not suggesting or advocating doing this...merely stating that it could be worth a few tish and giggles.

I did,

She said she is tied up at work, and doesn't have time to meet me.

I am having a little conversation with her at the moment. She is still replying, so I will update this tomorrow maybe,
Because I think today is going to be my last e-mail to her and her last reply :D

That's what I wanted to ask 'it', but If I did
she or he would stop replying
and that's no fun
