It looks to be some sort of custom convertible setup if you look at the pictures. Pretty stupid if you ask me....*thmbsdwn*

surely not the rarest as technically it is a baur conversion and not production bmw

The only thing that's half-decent is the two-tone interior, at least from the pics :)

Hmm, I would have thought something like the E31 M8 prototype would be the rarest BMW ever?

" The BMW 850CSi is a detuned version of the M8 which has never been produced and remained a prototype only. The M8 should have been built in a consequently lightweight manner in order to be a 'Ferrari-Killer'. The specially developed 550 hp engine has never been used except in the prototype - of which only one exists. But with the support of McLaren the M8 engine was transformed into the power plant of the McLaren F1 super sports car. At the time of development of the M8 there was virtually no market for such a car, so the BMW manager cancelled the project.

The M8-Prototype is perhaps the best-kept secret of BMW. Absolutely no one must see it or can get information, by order from the general manager himself. Questions from motorsport magazines remain unanswered as well. The car is locked away in the so-called Giftschrank, which could be translated as 'poison-storage'. According to BMW it is hidden behind lots of boxes anyway and will be destroyed in the near future as the 8 series doesn't exist any more and neither a successor.

The Prototype has never been road safe (even the headlights were missing as you can see in the picture) and was only loosely patched together, which is the reason why it is not presented in their museum. It's not even good for that ...says BMW.

Yes, the papers of an 850CSi say, it's an M8, but that's not of much use if you know what it could have been. What the S70 engine is capable of speaks for itself. The guys at McLaren say they could get 1000 hp at 9500 or 10000 rpm from the engine."

Look up Baur. Not my cup of tea but still unique.

this car looks rediculous and definitely a custom job by the looks of it.

not custom, a company used to purchase bmw's and make them into convertibles, but leave most of the roof structure intact since the bodies weren't reinforced, before the real vert's were available.

Started way back, there are e21 and e30 baur tc's as well.

Baur is a factory with long history and very respected.
Many companies use them to design production verts.

somebody took the most useless engine in the line up, sitting in the most boring shell and made a hideous looking semi convertible that looks like :puke: up or down?

i am glad they only made a few of those, in the meantime, zee germans came up with a "custom" e36 that i can approve of.

http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=bo1hclxre4ny

In german it says there someone figured M3 shell + V12 from the 850csi =

I would agree with that

I didn't think BMW was so stupid.

Baur didn't buy these cars. A customer ordered these cars form the lokal BMW-dealer. The Baur-conversion was an option. This is also the reason why you find the parts for your Baur under sliding roofs.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/RekordCoupe/BaurFolder/TC4Abschnitt.jpg

As you can see from the picture: it wasn't as simple as it looks. And yes, it was inforced. But these cars still have problems keeping there rigidity. In fact, this conversion costed more than a normal convertible with the same engine.

In total 310 cars are being produced. Mainly 4 cilinder, but also 57 6 cilinders (320i/325i/328i) and 11 diesels (318tds/325tds).

First you screw it up, than take it off and put it in the boot.

Man, that's some retro shit, I still have the ad for it from a 93 military magazine.

All we need is to get Boot to buy that car, painted candy flip, slam it and stretch it and poke it, then go pick up some teenager hoochies, drive 'em around while they stand up and flash their tities.

Or, let boot drive few guys around on 401, while bunch of guys from Max standing on the back and circle jerk on random traffic.

Now, that's some ****ing entertaining we need.
