What do you have now? Sealed beams? I'd suggest upgrading to ellipsoids. A little work involved in it and a little money (200). But benefitial.

Read over this an see if you're willing to do it.

I would either go with Euro elipsoides - they have the best output $$$ +++
Or an H4 Conversion... $ ++
Or US Elipsoides..$$ +

I rated them all for ya!

Just buy the H4 conversion, they are the easiest to replace, and cost around 50 - 100 for the lenses.. and you can pick your own bulbs

buy the euro smileys (ellipsoids) i have them with 4300k hids, but even without hids the beams of light travels forever and they look pretty bad ass too lol

Look to pay somewhere between $200-400 depending on how mint and how complete they are. There is no better set-up than Euro lights for E30s.

+1 for Euros or US Ellips. + HIDs. You'll actually enjoy driving at night with them. Best Mod ever.

and I payed over $500+ for an HID kit over 5 years ago. Now they are cheap.

haha holy thats brutal $500 for HIDs

IMO richies Ellipsoids + HID kit would be a good bang for the buck. I have ellipsoids and even just with high output bulbs there bright.

if OP has an IX he has ellips. but they are likely pitted and old. I've got one set that is very dim and another set that is nearly new. Same type, just lenses are clearer and the difference is huge. That doesn't change the fact that you need something new. rich's set sounds like a good deal

it is, but i am gonna get something new.

new on ebay = depo's, which are okay, but everyone will tell you to get the genuine item.

meh - they'll be 1000x better than the sealed beams your replacing. then get an HID kit from ivan for them! you will love it

Just a warning... I got a set of Depo smileys for my e34, and one lens cracked in less than a week. Took 3 weeks for the second one to crack.... they are cheaper for a reason. If you do buy them (or any set for that matter), get lamin-x to protect them!

Has anybody else had this problem?

03-02-2009, 03:40 PM
Frankly, my sealed beams in my eta were 20x better than the US ellip crap in my e30 now.

H4's are way better then US elips.. .. everlast is right

my euro elips are amazing, but it probably depends on the condition of your headlights as well. H4's are a very good solution though i just like the look of the euro IMO.
