Well it's late on a Thursday night and I am bored, so I decided to search through some of my oldest threads on here to recall my experiences with E36 ownership through the past several years. It's funny how much things changed, and the vast knowledge I gained from these boards is incredible. I started out as a typical car guy: not knowing much (if any) technical knowledge about how these machines work; looking up mods on eBay only to later realize how "uncool" they actually are; asking questions when I should have searched, etc etc. It's been an interesting journey - if it wasn't for BF.C/MaX I don't think I would have had such a respectably modded E36. I probably would have been part of the rice crowd to be honest!

So anyways, enough rambling and here is my tribute to "Zee German," my Schwarz Black E36 328i. 13 years old and still running strong! On with the flashbacks!

It all began many years ago in February, when I decided to start modding my E36: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=318152

eBay M3 mirrors and one-piece headlights were the goal!

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5755/1086080121590lpbe362bcr.jpg

Thankfully, some hard-nosed posters quickly put an end to that idea...
the chrome mirrors are rice-a-roni...

Get a set of LED windshield washers too.

Fast forward 2 years. I proceeded with OE style clears, Depo + HIDs from Ouri before he became BavToys and the massive price drops on E36 mods. I paid over $550 CAD back in the day for these! It hurts to see how the same items are now just over $100. I also had my windows tinted.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/3102/25zo4.jpg

Then I picked up a set of authentic Hamann HM2s during the Summer of 2007. Man these rims are so OG, I miss them.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/43/picture024by9.jpg

This sparked my love affair and addiction to rims. I quickly sold the HM2s and bought a set of 18" CSLs. I was torn between Hypersilver and Hyperblack, I ended up with the latter.
A month later, I finally abandoned my ideas of getting a front lip for the stock non-M bumper and took the plunge. I also picked up a MaxVelocity RS lip - probably the best looking lip for the E36 M3 bumper out there.

http://supercarfreak.net/gallery/albums/Dbworld4k5upercharged/pic_c.sized.jpg

I also added some OEM M3 mirrors and side moldings.

I quickly realized how badly my car needed a drop. I ended up going with a used set of Eibach Sportline springs and Bilstein Sport shocks.

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1043/postersr1.jpg

Bored during the winter of '07, I decided to spice up the interior a bit with some silver gauge rings and painted the needles red.

http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7903/dsc00815lj2.jpg

Also added an OEM M3 tri-spoke Steering wheel.

Then came the biggest and arguably the best mod I have ever done!
During the winter of 2008, I had saved up some funds to do a 5spd conversion! HUGE thanks to Charlie and Bimmersport for showing me the light!
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5862/31520738ox5.jpg

I won't get into it in this thread, but this single mod made me appreciate the joys of a proper car. Every single drive became a joyous wonder. It truly changed me as a driver - I started driving my car extremely hard after the swap! I still do it to this day - the urge to rev that motor high and row through the gears will surely get my into trouble one day, but not yet! [Knock on wood]

So in the summer of 2008, I got sick of my fog lights breaking and I didn't want to spend money on a HID kit, so I put some delete panels in their stead. I loved the look, and it was a bit different from every other car on here.
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7924/27552148pn7.jpg

Keeping tradition with my wheel addiction, I sold the Hyperblack CSLs in favor of my dream wheels. I splurged hard and bought some 19" staggered BBS CH.
And after hours of fender rolling + coilover installation to stiffen the rear to help with rubbing issues, I was good to go! My mechanic joked that this was the first time he had heard of someone installing coilovers (PSS9s) to RAISE a car!

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/2567/dsc010021lc2.jpg

One month later, I added a trunk lip and retrofitted E46 projectors into my DEPOs. I finally completed the look by adding some OEM M3 side skirts.
Couple weeks later, I also put red/gold BBS centercaps to make the wheels pop a bit more.

So, there you have it! I hope you enjoyed the chronological history of my beloved E36. It was a fantastic experience modding it from stock to what it was before I sold it in September 2008. It was truly one of the saddest days of my life; seeing another person take the keys and drive her out of my home. But the price that was offered to me was took good to pass up so I moved onto my next project, one of my favourite cars: an E46 coupe!

Before buying my current 330Ci, I looked into a Topaz Blue E46 325Ci. I put down a deposit on this car and was ready to buy it. It was even cheaper than what I sold my E36 for! I would have been able to put an MTech2 kit on this car right off the bat with the price difference. Thankfully, I had a PPI done before buying it and this revealed several issues that needed to be addressed. Nothing out of the ordinary, but something that would impact my decision nonetheless. I offered to purchase this car if the seller agreed to split the cost of the repairs with me ($500 is what he would have to take off his asking price). He declined, so I got my deposit back and looked for another vehicle.

A close friend showed me a silver 330Ci with very nice options and priced low because of the high mileage. I checked it out and fell in love. The car was pristine and seriously did not look its age. A PPI revealed that it needed NOTHING. It had a brand new clutch, new brakes, new belts, new water pump and t-stat, new A/C unit and was lightly modded to boot. I put in an offer that was quite lower than the asking price, but the dealer caved in after a few days. It’s good to be buying in tough times! And without further ado, here she is when I brought her home on Sept 25, 2008:

http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2820/dsc01128gr4.jpg

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/1866/dsc01127mj5.jpg

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/5760/dsc01129sv7.jpg

I quickly sold the MVRs a month later, as once again I had someone offering me good money for them :D I replaced them with some CSLs which I found locally. These lasted a record 16 hours before I sold them and bought my 3rd set of wheels for this car! DPE R06 black centers with polished lips.

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1985/dsc01189vb3.jpg. http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1708/dsc01204qs4.jpg

During New Years 2009, I was involved in a small incident when I lost control of the car on an icy highway ramp, damaging the rear bumper. Thankfully only cosmetic damage was incurred. I took the opportunity to get the much better looking MTech2 rear bumper installed and had the chrome window trim painted black. Here is the car in winter mode with the stock M68s on winter rubber.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/659/17553998ry4.jpg

And last week, I sold the DPEs in order to free up some cash. Their replacements are the following:

That’s it for now! Stay tuned for the completed look in a few months.

Nice thread Anuk...I like the style you chose on your E36 and im very curious to see what you transform your E46 into. And even though I didn't buy those bilsteins off you way back when...I still ended up with the fronts in my car now...:P

^ Sitting in my room, right next to me lol. Can't put them on the winter - they're gonna get ripped off. I'm too low right now anyways, gonna raise the car a bit in the spring once the coilovers go on.

Very enjoyable read dude. That e36 seemed just perfect. But you've moved on to another great, newer more refined vehicle.

Your E36 was never low enough, and the E46 is just barely low enough. Man up.

BTW I swear I found an RS lip just like that on the 401. Just like it.

wow db, your old e36 is probably the nicest car I've seen in a while. *Jaw drop* =O. Those bbs rims, look unbelievable on it. What kind of drop did you have at the front and at the back? I would think almost nothing in comparison to the oem specs. Especially this those 19. All I can say is wow... just wow

your journey seems very close to mine. My need for bmw's started with a 88' e30 325i. After that went with e36 325i, then upgraded to x5 4.4i, then to e46 330ci. Sadly i sold the e46 couple weeks ago for my e39 530i. Ci was not working too well with my 18 month old son.. miss my 330ci, however 530i seems like a very solid car, and the modding has already started for my 530i, heh..

Your e36 with the csl's was exactly how i wanted my e36 to look, i was close however had to sell since i was expecting. Loved your e36, very sad you let it go.. i felt my e36 was more fun of a car then my e46. E36 felt like i was more in control. Weird i know..

e39 is a total different driving exprience, upgraded my suspension with koni sa with eibach pro's which helped a little. I think i need to upgrade to a 540i or a m5... :)
