I know in the USA you can get a Duralast battery that is a perfect replacement for the battery in E46's. However you can't get those type of batteries in Canada.

Did anyone actually manage to buy a affordable aftermarket battery anywhere in Canada such as NAPA, CanadianTire, Wal-mart, etc?

Why don't you go to the US and get a duralast then? Is the US not an hr away for you?

you should look into an interstate battery. I have one in my E34; They were the only ones that seemed to have a battery with a vent tube in the correct spot (E34 battery is under the back seat). Plus it has like 750 cold cranking amps or something, which was among the highest I could find.

+1

I always used Interstate MTP-91's on my E30s. I believe it's the same battery for the E46.

don't listen to those idiots. just give them this model # and tell them you want to order it. Look at the pic and make sure it has the same style terminals as in your car and if there's a vent (not sure where the battery is in E46), note it's location. I pulled this from the Interstate site searching for a 2003 M3. I don't know exactly what you have but in your profile it says M3.

Yeah if that's what you've settled on. I have an Interstate battery in my car and it's been good to me.

I just purchased one from Carquest for my 05 330 cab - it cost $158 all taxes - they have a line for european cars. (bought one last year for my 98 M3 as well)
It works fine - the only problem is this battery is a little shorter than the oem unit and I had to make a small steel plate to keep the battery secured in place with the existing the clamping bolt
