I got a new shifter and knob and the knob keeps coming off.

I think there is a plastic retainer but I can't find it anywhere on any of the parts sites.

Is the shift knob adjustable? In the sense that it opens and has difference sitting levels?

They should just click on, give it a good wack.

That seems like a bad idea. How do you get it off?

+1... not a bad idea if you want a permashifter, but you're pretty much ****ed if you ever want to take it off again... gorilla glue is strong shit!

Oh yeah, the topic...

Just whack it hard. I had a good 15 minute battle getting my shifter into the slot when I got a new one. I've done it twice on my old e34, and it was hard for one, not as bad for a used knob because it was already "worn". The brand new one I put in my E30 was a royal pain in the ass. I had to put a layer over it to protect it and basically hammer it on.

I dread taking it off if I ever decide to replace the shifter boot... it's gonna pop me in the nose, I just know it....
