I recently discovered rust developing on the inside edge of my trunk lid. I'm worried that the rust is going to continue to develop and spread to the outside and visible edges.
Anyone with any recommendations on what can be done or where to go?

Thanks in advance

depending where the rust is, i would dremel/grind it out, spray some rust protection, and paint. I got this bottle of rust protection which also acts as a primer. I think its by rust check. If its a big spot, you may need to fill it with some filler, sand, prime and paint.

Count yourself lucky it's on the inside and you can sand/convert/paint it as you please :)

You guys think theres any chance of the rust spreading to the outside before summer comes?

I noticed there was some very small rust 'bubbles' running along the bottom edge of my doors on my e38 so I started to pick away on it and eventually i started to grind out the bead molding only to find lots more surface rust around the skin folds. Eventually all four doors need to have the bead caulking removed and rust dremeled out. After an entire weekend of this I then took it in to a body shop to have the beads reapplied an then repainted.

A couple pics to show you guys what I mean more specifically. No photography skills.....its worse in person than it looks, especially since salt is covering up much of the detail. As you can see its happening on both the left and right edges of the trunk edge. (Sorry for large pics)
You guys think its a DYI fixer?

+1 season pass for car wash in winter :) Then when summer comes round, good polish and wax to get her back to shape.

yeah, i would start lookin for a new trunk. That looks pretty bad, dunno if it would be worth the hassle to repair. If your trunk is rusting that bad, you should probably check under your car, i imagine other components may be rusted...
