I was told by friends that for a new car you need to get the first oil change before the recommended time. I am currently at 1800 kms in 2 months.

I called the dealership and they said NOT to get the oil change before 6000kms due to additives in the oil they add at the start. They also said the time doesnt matter for the first one, but only the 6000 kms.

Is this correct. Do i wait till 6000kms to get my first oil change? even if it takes another 6 months to hit 6000 kms?

ALSO******

AFter this first oil change when do you go for regular oil changes? Every 3 months or 3000kms?

thanks for the info....

Buying new cars is like taking ur money and putting a flame to it.

Its every 5000km BTW. As long as you give the car time to work in I think that every 5000km is best.

None of us are the engineers who built your car.

You're just going to get recycled bad info from people who have never taken an engine apart, let alone know the specifics of your particular car.

follow the manual. Also, search online to see if your engine is broken in at all at the factory. If not, you can consider an extra oil change somewhere around 1000KM. From what i know, you're supposed to break most cars in with dino oil, but like jay said, read your manual.

Follow the dealer's recommendation for the 1st 6000km, after that from BMW service advisor's recommendation .. its once a year or 25000 km which ever comes first...but most owners change the oil between 8500 to 12000.(half the BMW recommendation)

I changed mine once a year for I dont drive 10000 km yearly.

and yes.. read the manual, there are good info in there..
