1) Auto? He spent over $20,000 modding an auto 540i*uzi*
2) Dinan rates that car at 414hp not 450hp
3) I can go buy a 540i with less mileage and get it modded with the same package for about the same money or less (saves some of the hassle buying it already modded I guess, but for that price it's not a good deal at all)
4) For $35k I'd go buy a 2001 E39 M5 with less than 100,000 km on it.

Good luck selling it.

Is the Stage 3 supercharged or something? Or is it just basic I/H/E/Chip mods?

Supercharged. If you look at the kijiji add you can see it under the hood.

ah... I didn't bother to look at the pics... but I can see a S/C'd 540 taking out an M5 even an auto.

My take on the blown 540 vs a stock E39 M5.

It's not all about power. I find the E39 M5 to have ridiculously long gearing to begin with.

My understanding is that the auto E39 540 has gearing so long it makes the M5 box look like a competition special in comparison.

The 540i's had the same ratios as the M5's just that the M5 has a shorter ratio diff 3.15 while the 540i had a 2.81 IIRC.

The BMW 540i sport has a 3.15 diff! Dinan has a stage 2 upgade for there superchargers that can give the 540i around 475 horsepower but they don't advertise it on there website. Also remember the 540i auto is about 250lbs lighter than the M5 and the 6-speeds are 300lbs lighter! I'll bet $1000 that an auto supercharged 540i will pull on a stock or lightly modified E39 M5! Now if you boost an M5 than...... Enough said. hahahah!

man, this dude is like that guy on ebay with the stage 3 E39 M5, dyno'd 700whp and wanted 110k for it.

s/c'd 540IA can def smoke a M5.

beautiful car in my opinion, and honestly he should not even bother selling the vehicle ... I know for a fact a charged 540 will walk a stock M5

Anyways he made mention to me that he was getting very old and has serious back issues (thats why he had the auto ?) maybe he suffers from sciatica , he was willing to drop the price down "a lot"

I would not go on to say its "gay" as it's an auto , just driver / owner preference

I don't know but the price seems a bit high to me... no? (161,000KM's)

Sounds like he really cared for this car, which could be good.

Maybe its worth the money to some people...

LOL. I hope that was suposed to be a joke. :D

On another note,

Not too long ago I purchased for a family member a 2002 540i auto (very clean) with 70,000 Miles from Manheim for $7500 U.S.

clean 2002 M5's are selling for $15,000 U.S at Manheim.

I'm sure this guy isn't aware how badly the luxury car market took a hit.

even VMR says its worth tops $18,600 retail. Most consumers would be aware and check this out. http://www.vmrcanada.com/value_menus/canprices/02bm5-es.htm

In general, People don't pay extra for modifactions to any vehicle. Nor do modifactions increase the value of any vehicle, if anything they should decrease it for many informed consumers. People prefer OEM. It's just a known fact.

agreed. When I was appraising cars at Toyota, modifications actually decreased the value of cars we took in trade-in. Heavily modified trucks (in Alberta there's lots of them) and modded Civics and Corolla's often just got dumped to our wholesalers to deal with. The luxury car market has honestly been hit huge. What's the best price you can get for an 05 X5 with the 3 liter (with as many packages as possible)?

I just love the people who bash prices of rare imported cars without having any clue as to what it takes and how much it costs to get one here.

If you think that's ridiculous go buy one in Europe and import it yourself. Cheapest one I found was 15900Euros which at todays exchage rate is about $25600 add to that shipping (about $2k to Toronto), 6.1% duty, 13% taxes, Excise tax of $100, port fees, bank transfer fees, safety, emissions and you are over $33k not to mention a whole lot of headaches dealing with everything.
If you plan on using someone to import if for you then add their fees on top of the $33k.

At $29k if the cars are clean, with no issues they are right where they are a steal.

Mark, clean E30 M3's go for at least $15,000. There is a $20,000 rule with E30 m3's, either spend that much on the right car or you will spend that much more on a wrong one.

^ what he said. Mind you with that being said, the market for an E30 M3 is REALLY a different kettle of fish.

funny how I seen some of these in Europe going for 7-9K euros and its funny how I see skylines imported and selling for a lot less then 29k.

Rare yes but I just dont think its worth that much money .. I can think of many more cars to purchase for that price.

Wow, see I had no idea, thats good information. They really held their value!

Those BMW Z1's are cool! First time I saw one was this past January near my house in Florida. St. Armands Circle near Lido beach in Sarasota. Just parked infront of a restaurant on the circle. Shortly after, I was walking around with the wife checking out some shops and getting some ice cream, and I heard this beautiful noise coming from an unknown car I've never seen before until that day. Sounded so familiar, I told myself, "damn that has to be a BMW". Well he ripped around teasing a Porsche Carrera GT that just pulled up. I went over to get a closer look, and it was that same BMW Z1 that was parked and I had no clue what it was. Talked to the owner for a few minutes, he was so proud of the car, a real BMW enthusiast, then he left. Then right after I watched a guy walk to a Porsche Carrera GT with his wife, fire up that beast, and ripped it off chasing after the red Bmw Z1... I wonder if he caught up to the Z1? :D

I guess if 1969 Mustangs are selling for $500,000 at Barret Jackson, you can pretty much put any price tag on any rare Collectors car.

Please provide a link for me to where these cars are selling for 7-9k euros as I've been looking for one for a number of years and can't find any that cheap, not even with high km's. I will be in Europe in July and will gladly pick one up.

I've checked mobile.de, all of the european eBay's, autoscout24.de, autoscout24.ch, pistonheads, autotrader UK, etc.

Skylines are dirt cheap in Japan, as are most cars over 10yrs old. I travel to Japan for work regularly and know that they can be had from $2k and up, hence they are cheap here.

Your better off talking to someone in person there but here are some good places to start.

I remember seeing a dime a dozen in spain and holland. Just finding the right seller .. if it is kept well they will try to sell it like people try to sell there old m3's here.

None of the sites you proivided have any Z1 even near to 10k Euros. They all show the same prices in my initial response. Like I said before, show me one for 7-9k Euros in decent shape and I will buy it.

I do talk to people in person all the time. I have friends in Germany, Holland, France, Spain, UK and Switzerland that are always looking for cars like the Z1, E30 M3's, Alpina B10 BiTurbo's, etc.

I stand behind what I say that I don't think you realize what these go for, just like you think that E30 M3's are expensive here. I don't think you've seen what they go for in Europe and yes they sell for close to asking price. These "old" as you call the M3's are a steal in North America compared to the rest of the world. They only place they can be had cheaper is if you luck out in Japan.

They might have been 7-9k years ago, but I've been looking at prices of E30 M3's, Alpina's, E34 M5's and Z1's since they introduced the 15yr law in the mid 1990's and have never seen them that cheap.

Eurospec E30 M3's could be had for peanuts back in 2001 when Germany's currency was the deutschmark

I love the huge trucks out there! You begin to not even turn your head for a f-350 with a 12inch lift there are so many...then again same with BC and California...and Florida....why do I live here!
