so this vehicle was in the building today, I've been told that the customer has been driving this vehicle around the world, it's a W170 SLK shell on a short-wheelbase G-Wagon chassis.

That car belongs (belonged) to Jim Rogers, a great investor and author of many book including The Adventure Capitalist, which describes his 2yr journey around the world in this very car.

This is the most disgusting POS yet. I would like it more if it was a real SLK modified for offroad, not a shell on a different chassis. He should of stuck with:

http://www.difflock.com/diffmag/july2004/Gwagen_clifftop.jpg

or a custom 911 4x4 ( still riding on its original chassis.)

Original cars customed out for offroad= cool. shells on other cars for offroad= Ugly POS as above.

knowing benz and how they build military trucks .. this thing would be hella fun going offroading BUT it is ugly .. its like they tried to make a sports car offroad car.

it also has/had a trailer it towed behind it, which was the back half of another SLK in the same colour, since this trunk did not give enough capacity once the top was down.

I love how people whine about the looks. This is for FUNCTION I think, who cares how ugly it is if it does the job.

a g class short wheel base can be dropless too, more luggage room and looks 10 times better. how is this function? lool

Luggage and looks aren't the function I was referring to. :) Offroading is what I meant.

and it's a hardtop convertible, how many offroad vehicles has that option.

anyways the car left this morning on a flatbed, maybe someone else will spot it.

This guy is really smart.

quote from wikipedia:

"In Sep. 2007, Rogers sold his mansion in New York City for about 15 million USD and moved to Singapore. This is due mainly in his belief that this is a ground-breaking time for investment potential in Asian markets. Rogers' daughter is being tutored in Mandarin to prepare her for the future, he says. "Moving to Singapore and Dubai now is like moving to New York City in 1908," he said. Also, he is quoted to say: "If you were smart in 1807 you moved to London, if you were smart in 1907 you moved to New York City, and if you are smart in 2007 you move to Asia." In an CNBC interview with Maria Bartiromo broadcast on May 5, 2008, Rogers said that people in Asia are extremely motivated and driven, and he wants to be in that type of environment to be himself motivated and driven. He said during that interview that, this is how America and Europe used to be. He chose not to move to Hong Kong or Shanghai due to the high levels of pollution causing potential health problems for his daughter.[3]"
