He has a 98 motor this one requires a 97.

There is to much work involved.

Please excuse my ignorance but why does it require a motor from a 97 and not any motor like every other car?

Engine with around 11500km and labour you are looking around $2500
Since the engine is out might as well replace the clutch and throw out bearing.

Is the motor going to fall in there itself? Wouldn't you change all the motor's seals, gaskets, etc before dropping it in? Have you priced out how little 1997 540s in good shape and running condition go for these days?

I havent seen too many 97 540i going for under $7500 in good condition.
I spent 4 months looking for one, most of them are junk.

It's easy to replace a mechanical component then it's to repair the body.
When the new owner came to look at the vehicle he was amazed the shape of the interior and exterior. He purchased it right away for this reason. In conclusion I believe your statement is incorrect.*wiggle*

I bought this car. The car is absolutely mint. There's not even a single scratch / tear on the leather seats and the body is 100% rust free. The engine isn't really blown either, just needs new heads and lifters. Pulls like a monster ;) No regret at all on the purchase, very straight forward and professional guy to deal with.

Thanks a lot!

I was quoted 2k including parts and labour. Which is still a deal considering what I got the car for, and what the lifters alone cost ($23.30 each x 32). The engine runs fine as it is, just makes the lifter noise.

The car's doing good, just had a fresh oil change with Lubromoly 5w40. Do you remember when the last e-test was done by the way? Do you still have the paper?

EMT at Guelph is going to be doing the work. Good guys, usually work on VW / Audi so I was a little worried at first, but they seem to know what they're doing.

Last E-test was done 2 years ago.
Let me know how she does. Stop by any time.

PS don't let your girlfriend drive the car:D

'97 and '98 same engines. Vanos started in 99. So if you get a 98 engine it will be straight plug and play.

That depends on whether it's late '98 or early '98. Later ones had VANOS engines.

I would be all over this if it was in the US and $500 cheaper. Just part it out man. Trust me, i've parted out a 98 540 before. There is alot of money in these cars. For starters. I would like to buy your rear passenger side shades off you.

EDIT: NVM congrats on the sale.

Sorry Bud..

Schumacher bought the car last month.
I prefer to see the car go to a good home in one piece then salvage her for parts.
