FS: 2000 BMW M5 - Black on Black

I am the third owner of this E39 M5. The car was purchased about 6 months ago however I am selling because I am now looking for a smaller car.

Motor is strong and sounds great. Clutch bites well. Car has no creaks or rattles. Solid inside and out. Super comfortable and very adept at road trips. Even though you may not be crossing continents with this car, it will make

short work of weekend getaways.

The car has a Dinan Cold Air Intake and brake cooling ducts installed.

Price: $20000
Mileage: 223xxx km
VIN: wbsde9343ybz94318

The car is well maintained and has been exclusively serviced by BMW. All records from 10km up until now are available.

The car has not been in any accidents however it was backed up into in a parking lot and the hood, bumper, and driver's side light were changed. It's never been raced or tracked.

In the last 6 months, the following items items of note have been changed.

1. All Rotors and Pads
3. Fuel Filter Change (last week)
4. All Tires
5. Cabin Air Filters
6. Dinan CAI filters
7. MAFs (Mass Air Flow Meters)
8. Spark Plugs
9. Front Control Arms
10. Belts
11. GPS Mark III
12. Four Wheel Alignment

Total Oil 10W50 was used; last oil change was 2 months and 2xxx km ago at Bimmersport.

The interior is black leather complemented with Bruyere Wood Trim. Both the leather and trim are in excellent condition and there's not a single crack in the trim nor is there fading on any of the plastic components.

The car has folding rear seats. The paint is in excellent condition and has had a recent clay bar treatment - there are a small number of stone chips on the hood from highway traffic. There is a paint scuff on the front bumper. The cluster has the typical missing pixels found in all BMWs (even 2007 models) and has resulted in a "possible odomoter inconsistency" listing on CarFax - this is not the case and was a mistake when the car went through emissions testing as they were not able to read the mileage properly.
Emissions passed with flying colours and the certificate is still valid.

A CarFax report is available if you are interested.

Car is located in the city of Toronto.

Please email me at mudmojo@gmail.com with any questions.

Is this an Exec pkg? Why is there no M sport seats? the picture of the fronts seats looks like there is no adjustable thigh supports?

mudmojo

This M5 has the 18 way Comfort seats with built in massagers and heaters... it's an upgrade from the regular seats. The regular seats are the sport seats like on the E46 M3 with the sliding thigh support pieces.

Here is some reading...

I've never heard of the Exec package before? Does that mean Executive?

Did you ever drive the car in the winter? If you did, how did the 10w-50 oil work when it got down to -20? It seems a little too thick for winter.

Just saw this now.

Nope, I never drove the car in the winter... I just picked it up in May earlier this year.

I checked against the owners' manual and BMW does not suggest using anything less than 10 in their motor oil for the Y2K S62 engine.

I was going to do this a while ago. With the baby on the way, I was dissuaded. Got rid of both 1s and picked up an STI, kept the 540.

If heaven forbid something happens to the 540, then I'll definitely revisit. The mileage is up there though, even as a 2000 car...

Good luck!

mudmojo

Mileage. Picked it up at 223xxx km last May and now it's at 229xxx km. Yes, 6000km. I have two other cars so the mileage gets split amongst them.

It's the km's killing the sale of this car.. unfortunately people don't realize how a 5.0L V8 will go forever.. If i was back from Australia I would be all over this.. I have decided an E39 M5 is next on my list.. if you're not in a rush we can work a deal.. or if you're interested in my 92 ACS resto project.. just needs paint :P

If I didn't have one M5, I would be considering this for sure, despite the KM's. Maintenance is everything, km's are nothing.

Was it a US car by chance, because for the mileage that it has the previous owners must have driven the car more than 25k per year, which for the average person means that the car was winter driven. For people that travel a lot for business 25k during the nice months is doable though.

compared to other M5's of that age it does have a lot mileage, but you're price is fair and reflects that.

mudmojo

It's a Canadian car. IIRC, the reason it has a lot of mileage is because the original owner/workaholic commuted from St.Catharines to Toronto every day for years. That comes out to around 29000 km a year just for work but it's mostly easy highway miles which this car excels at soaking up.

Don't forget about all the money you'd need to maintain baller status with the chicks that that car would get you, oh yeah that and maintenance.

well he looks like he's maintained it decently well, and insurance on it would be my greatest concern. I'd have to see it in person though for sure. But it looks to be pretty clean, and those engines last forever as you well know. KM don't scare me.

May be trading her in soon although I would rather sell her outright as I do not need a replacement car right now.

Forgot to mention, the primary radiator fan appears to be missing. According to a parts search, it's a $60 some odd dollar fan which sounds ridiculously cheap so maybe I got the wrong part #.

Anyway, the car was summer driven last year and did not ever overheat in its current primary fanless state even in the hottest of Toronto weather. Water temp gauge never climbed much more than half way either in hellish traffic. The price has been adjusted in case you want to get a replacement fan purchased and installed.

I thank you for your offer and I would consider it except I don't think I know how to ride!

I've ridden seriously underpowered dirt bikes but riding off road and on road are two totally different things and I don't have my motorcycle license anyway.

Besides, the way I see it, a noobie on a 1000cc is stupid. A noobie on a Busa is suicide. If I were a seasoned rider, I'd make the jump but I don't think you can wait two years. :D

Your sig says you have an E39 540 and M5 already?

Worth the try, my wife wants the bike gone as one of my close friends had a terrible accident not to long ago. I agree it is not a bike for newbie riders, however it was worth a shot :)

I own the 540i, my brother has the M5 ...

Im trying to sell the bike so if I come up with the cash ill take that vehicle off you right away

best of luck

correction. 1300cc*wave* lol stupid fast bikes!

Surprised it hasnt sold aswell! Although I've heard these e39 M5's are very problematic after 100k and require religious maintenance. Although with the milage it has, I'm guessing most problems have been fixed? Good luck with the sale!

Too bad I can't edit the original post. Sorry for all the bits and pieces falling into place like this. Some of these I forgot to mention and some of these I'm finding out as I go along.

Check Engine Light - previous owner said that there is some insignificant sensor of some type missing. He scanned it and showed the single code to my friend but I never saw the code.
Construction/repair welds on the driver's door. Looks like there's some little rust spots painted over too and they just look like little bubbles. Fuel filler door has tiny bit of rust developing. No rust (painted over or visible) anywhere else on the car.
Power Steering hoses seem to leak. I tried filling it up and spilled fluid into engine bay and onto engine undertray.
Windshield washer reservoir cap fell onto and is presumably still sitting on undertray. When it happened, it did not fall onto the ground.
Small clearcoat scuff on top of rear bumper. Little door ding on right rear quarter panel.
Clutch sticks a bit apparently.
Left front tire outside edge is worn. Tire will need to replaced soon. Alignment may be needed too.

It's a high mileage daily driver M5 and is not perfect but I feel that the price has been adjusted adequately to compensate for the "less than perfect" portions.
