View Full Version : My Widebody Build Thread

well, as some of you know... i'm doing a custom widebody on my car.
i bought a widebody kit for a 2dr. m3 but everything was different and nothing fit 2dr and 4dr are complety different, i was going to get rid of the idea, but my rims are too wide 19x10 front and 19x12 rear... so i have to have some kind of widebody.
so i decided to use my own bumpers and skirts and make a custom widebody.
everything is going to be made out of metal and is welded on as i don't want it to crack like fiberglass does.

most of these pics were taken a few days before, but i'll post some more progress sometime next week.

here are some pics

here is me working on the front fender + skirt
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0181.jpg

pics of my front rims, they are 19x10

the front end
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0231.jpg

the rear rims, they are 19x12
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0241.jpg

here is a custom made attachment for the bumper... still in progress of triming and stuff
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0251.jpg

the rear lips... 4 inch lips
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0261.jpg

the front fenders... almost done already have some primer on it
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0271.jpg

the bottom of the fender... there is also a peice added to the bottom of the fender, its for the skirts.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/djeurofest/build0281.jpg

here is the colour i was planning on painting the car... if you look close you can see some of the pearls in the paint... but this colour is not good for it.
thinking of a candy apple red now

Looks good so far. I would definitely go with a candy apple red as opposed to the blue pearl you have there. Keep on posting pics, can't wait to see the finished product.

i highly recommend you should have used fiberglass instead of sheet metal.

not only is it easier and lighter to build but you can make many replacement parts VERY easily.

whats going to happen if you get into the tiniest of tiny accidents say shopping cart just lightly bump it. ***KNOCK ON WOOD***

i completely understand why you would want to use sheet metal because it wont look cheap at all....
final note:

Your resale value just went to shit*wave*< You having the sickest BMW ever

Hours and hours of blocksanding later and chances for cracks and chips etc.. Props for doing it in metal.. If a shopping cart hits the car i don't think the damage would be all that bad.. Any widebody kit is moulded into the car anyways and would take just as much work to make it perfect either way being done in metal or in glass. Especially with a candy paint.. the whole car would have to be resprayed as matching candy would be next to impossible...

EXACTLY. I doubt this car is going to be a grocery getter. It's clearly going to be more of a show car, so the chances of accidents are less likely. Metal is a MUCH better choice compared to FG!

well, fiberglass may have been easier... but with metal, its welded on and if it hits a shopping cart... it won't crack like fiberglass would. the metal attachments are done almost perfect... then over the metal, i added fiberglass (bondo style fiberglass) just a small coat to make it completly smooth.

if someone hits it, it will more likly to dent rather then crack.

hmm resale value lol, with all the money i have in it, i don't think i'll ever want to sell it lol. its my ferrari!

nice! i think if i was going with such a wide rim i would need more dish forsure.

the thing is, i got a wheel sponsor (enkreuz wheels) these wheels are 3 peice, i have like 4 or 5 different size lips that i can change.

i just think this is the perfect combo... 2 inchs in the front and 4 in the rear.
i can add bigger lips in the rear which i still may do, but i don't want it to be very big in the rear and small in the front, like most widebodys have.
also that is why i still don't have tires installed, once its complete, i may change lips sizes. i want the rim end lip to poke past the quarter.

well i found my camera, it was at the shop... and after taking the pics, i found out my lens is dirty... oh well, i cleaned it since but the pics are not the greatest, but you get the idea.

The car is on just regular rims, so that the others don't get dirty or damaged or get over spray.

on this pic, you can see how skinny the oem rims are, my rims, which are going on the car, stick past the quarters.

this is the colour i will paint, i believe i will also put black toner in the clear. this colour is hard to take a pic of, with no light to it, it looks dark, when i take it outside, its a lot more bright and you can see the matalic in it.

price of installation and price of kit

well, it costs a lot.

you gota factor not just the kit, but wheels too, cuz as you can see stocky wide rims look funny on a widebody.

i paid 6500-7000 USD alone for the rims + shipping + border fees + ofcourse tires.

the rims are 3 peice forged rims, custom made by Enkreuz Wheels, with 4 inch lip in the rear and 2.5 in the front.
19x10 front 19x12 rear and BBK fitment.

i bought a widebody kit, but i ended up not using it, as its for a 2 dr.
this kit was all custom made using sheet metal.

i am not sure how much it would cost, as its not complete, but when doing custom stuff like this, shops don't charge a certain amount, it all depends how much hours they spend on it.
i know its roughly 6 gs when you bring in a widebody kit and the shop just molds it in, so i assume this will be like maybe 10gs?

the exhaust area... the exhaust is the stock exhaust from teh 330

i ordered a different exhaust, should be here... middle of the week, then after it being painted, i'm taking it to a muffler shop to put it in.
i don't feel like wasting my time trying to get it aligined, cuz i am not using that exhaust
