The lease is coming up on our 530 this june and we are starting to look at the market for a replacement.

Were looking very strongly at the Audi A5. seen it at the autoshow and fell in love with the styling.

My questions are:

Even with the newly reduced MSRP's Audi's providing were still getting hosed for about 10 Grand compared to the states on the A5 and even more on the S5! do you think they will negotiate more on the vehicle?

Is it possible to import from the US? I know BMW has made it alot harder to do it, but its possible. Just wondering if Audi is just as tough?

Heck for the price we pay for the A5 here in Canada you can get the S5 for CHEAPER in the states! its sickening... really sickening.

I saw the new A4 in person in Germany. It looks identical to the A5 until you see the side profile.

I see no point to sell your 5 series for an A5, it's slow too, and overpriced. Why not get the new A4 instead.

Bro, the A5 is the coupe version of the new A4. They offer the same engines. Why would the A5 be too slow?

Audi A5/S5 can be brought to Canada pretty easily, if you need info, you can PM me with what you want and how soon.

335 coupe > S5.

335 coupe > S5.

*thmbsdwn*

Although, everyone has their own opinions. I think the S5 blows the 335 out of the water.

I like the design of the S5 over the 335 coupe, even though it looks similiar.

awsome post*th-up*!!! but they should have put the audi with its awd against the 335xi coupe, that would be more of a competition

Gamite

xi probably woulda lost.

why do you say so? loss of power? or becasue she wouldnt have been able to drift it like she did

Gamite

yea, you lose a lot of power to the awd system.

Meegis

xi probably woulda lost.

So what you're saying is, the bmw only wins when it is given an unfair advantage

Edit: To add to that, this was a straight up track test, no other things involved, like styling, interior, comfort, features, etc etc.

IMHO, I have driven both, and well, I know it would seem biased, but you really must see the two of them to really compare.

well I'll give you interior, E90 interior is horrible. But it by no means "blows it out of the water"

The 335xi goes 0-100 faster than the 335i though. I don't know if the xi is slower through turns or not.

bimmerjoe
03-09-2008, 08:52 PM
of course it would be faster 0-100 because in the begining it has a major advantage with the awd

Unfair advantage? Audi chooses not to equip their cars with an enthusiast's drivetrain, that's not BMW's fault.

The S5 is beautiful and Audi's dynamics are improving, but the 335 is sublime.

I agree that Audi should offer other drivetrains (they have fwd, but meh) I was just saying that in the quote I used, it would seem to be unfair to compare the too equally.

Gamite even said so himself.

Thanks for the replies fellas,

I called up Audi Mississauga yesterday to speak with a sales person in terms of pricing etc. They seemed pretty set that with the recent MSRP reduction they are more in line with US Pricing. I asked the sales guy to take a look at the US site and tell me how 10K difference is more in line.

Now i deal with alot of used car shippers on a daily basis, to get the car to the border and clear customs isnt the issue.

Meegis I will be heading to Florida on May 15th, we also hope on purchasing the car than as the lease is up on the BMW in Mid June. this should give us enough time to get every thing sorted out.

But first im going to go into Audi here in Mississauga and speak with a sales guy and see what they can do (i dont expect much) but its worth a shot.

The S5 is a goregeous car, however may be out of our budget (not by much) but out of our budget. In the states, its a no brainer to get it. But really 65 Grand here for the car and 50 grand in the states a 15 K difference! Plus close to a 9% interest here in Canada!

If you are going to Audi of Sauga, ask for Alex Fretes, tell him Meegis sent you...

He knows me well and he will do what he can, but the US pricing wont be any good of an argument, I can tell you that right now.

I never said anything about unfair advantages. I just said that the interior was crap.

I agree! the S5 or RS5 is my next car!/ daily driver!

blows the 335i out of the water in my oppinion as far as styling and interior!

And in the snow storms like we've been having, i would never get stuck like I do with my bmw! LOL

so conclusion, DON'T BUY THE S5, its mine! haha

if you get stuck with your bmw you suck at driving.

imo- the a5 took best of show at the auto show this year, only car that had me thinking about it after the show, based on exterior styling only of course

Audi and BMW used to compete on a different level. The pricing is always stepped making either one a little more or a little less depending which model you go for.

For example, S5 is cheaper than M3, but RS4 which is a better comparison is more expensive, then you can say the M5, but the RS4 is cheaper, and so you move on to the S6.

It is hard to compare 1 to 1, as the pricing is always a half bracket away.

Seriously huh?! Oh I see how it is now! Sounds like Jay has an issue with my advertising?! or me?

I never really get stuck with the car, but the 18" snow tires on my oem rims this year aren't too great, as good as the 17's were last year!

There's no way anyone's car would of made it in my area this past saturday night where my SUV didn't even feel the snow! Thats all I'm saying!
