long answer? why bother? its not a light car. gas is cheap here relative to europe. why would anyone here want a sliggish bimmer?

because some people prefer buying cheaper new bmw's, than buying old bmw's with big motors.

You are so right! That is why they stopped selling the 318 with the e36. There is no market for an underpowered 'luxury' car in North America.

What about the audi 1.8t

The 1.8T Audi is not just a "4 Cylinder" car. It's turbocharged, producing more power than most of the e46 325i's.

audi 1.8t isn't a slow car, its a 1.8L turbocharged engine, they rnt bad power wise but not very reliable engines.

318 e36 is just a 1.8L
320 e46 is just a 2.0L

you cant compare them to 1.8t engine,

What about the audi 1.8t

That is a very respectful light pressure turbo with significant power. It sure beats Europe's current 143 hp 318

Auto journalists have actually preferred the 1.8t A4 to the 2.8, with its 170hp, 166 lb/ft

2001+ 320 is 2.2L, actually 320's were quite underrated.

where did u read this?

Just because its turbocharged that doesn't mean it puts out more power than an M54B25.

An e46 M54B25 puts out 184hp/175tq and the Audi does 170hp/166tq.

Actually the 320 has a 2.2 L, Same HP as the 323's 2.5l engine while getting better fuel efficiency. :)

Curb Weight - Manual (lb.) 3560 --- 325i (2005)

info is from msnautos.

imo 325 much more reliable than 1.8T..ive heard horror stories on those 1.8T's..

edit: the quattro is 3406

320 has less torque compare to 323.

I prolly have the slowest BMW on this forum, E34 520i Touring, and I love it. And most of the times, more than my M3.

I'm sure your car is great. Personally, I love 5 series tourings. I question, though, how the engine pulls the car for what its designed to do, carry a full family and their stuff in the back.

Before I got the 520, I had 535i sedan. After switching from 535i I definitely felt the lack of torque, but to be honest not as bad as I thought. I expected it to be MUCH slower. In fact before getting the 520 I drove 525, touring as well, and it felt pretty much the same. Though I'll admit that 525 was in a worse shape than my 520.
Anyways, I had this car full of people and full of stuff and it was alright. The only thing that bothers me is pretty short gearing(3.64). Feels like this car needs a 6th gear, but other than that, its a perfect daily driver.

With 520 I save 1l of gas per 100km on the highway and over 6l of gas in the city, and considering that gas costs here $1.6 per liter, I'm extremely happy with this car.

Look, If information is wrong its source is irrelevant. A 320 is a 2.2l, the 323i is a detuned 2.5l. The only reason i brought that up is because you were posting wrong information like it was fact. Another thing, I'm not bragging about my car being fast, its just giving it the proper credit.

Facts are facts, it has nothing to do with the internet or forums, Obviously not everything on the forums is fact since you're allowed to post freely. Stop talking out of your ass and do some research. I said the 320i has a 2.2l engine and has the same horsepower as a 323i's 2.5 liter engine. I never said it was faster then a 325i, a 320i in fact has 20 less horsepower. What about that is so hard for you to comprehend? Do i have to type in all caps for you to take it in. What does the fact that my car is newer have to do with anything?

Ill make it clear, when it comes to horse power

325i>320i
320i = 323i

When it comes to engine

325i = 2.5l
323i = Detuned 2.5l
320 = 2.2l

A 318 is really more than adequate for real world driving- especially in Ontario with our 100km/h speed limit. Seriously, a M42/44 will kill a good majority of the cars pounding the unlimited sections of Autobahn in Germany- since most of the cars there are powered by tiny DIESEL engines which top out at like, 160-170km/h or so.

If I ever move to Germany, I'm salvaging all my parts from the 318 lol

Because some people have more then one car, and would like a car for commuting, thats relatively good on gas, less emissions (better for enviroment), and relatively cheap. So, if you end up scratching it or denting it you don't have to worry about it. And I might add, something that doesn't catch the attention of other people too much.

they never brought them to canada.
