There is no DIY for 92-95s, it's pretty complicated to do it properly (i.e. safely). An automotive electrician takes at least an hour, and he's done it many times.

A simple DRL relay swap will solve your problem.

Where do I get that?

From a US 96+ e36 or from the dealer.

US DRL: BMW Part No. #61358370510

Remove DRL relay/module and fit standard relay/module 61 35 8 370 510.
Located behind drivers knee bolster to the upper right of the steering column, blue in colour.

It's not cheap, $140 or something like that. He can also do other tricks while he's in there, like independent fogs, ignition-controlled lights (i.e. you can leave the switch on and they turn off), etc.

No. All 90-95 3-series DRLs are low beams (as well as all other exterior lights).

When I called safe & sound installations they said about $90 but give them a call!

P.S. Don't we already have ignition controlled lights? My lights don't stay on if I leave the light switch even in third position, unless ignition is turned on.

I have a 09/94 production 95 and my DRLs were the highleams. I did a DRL delete by swapping the CDN DRL module for a US spec one.

Actually yes this will work for his model year depending on equipment level. I have fitted many of these in the past.

Some were also equipped with a coding diode in the harness for the DRL function.
